Over the past few years the number of resident complaints relating to off-road vehicles, and the associated dust and noise issues that accompanies the operation of them, have risen steadily. Most of this is due to the rapid increase in development of areas typically used for recreational vehicles.
On July 7, 2004, the City Council heard a multitude of citizens’ concerns, and the residents demanded that the Council act to protect them. Concerns included:
- Dust and noise issues
- Young children riding pocket bikes and motorized scooters in public right-of-ways
- Property damage
- Loss of property values
- Proliferation of pocket bikes
- Numerous safety concerns
On September 1, 2004, the City Council adopted two revisions to existing ordinances to restrict the riding of off-road vehicles within the City limits.
