As required by the Biennial US Census, the City Council adopted new district boundaries on April 5, 2022. For more information on the new districts, please click on this link.


On June 6, 2017, the City Council voted to approve Ordinance No. 2017-09 to establish a by-district election system selecting the proposed Council1B district map and sequence of elections to implement beginning in 2018.

Districts 2, 3, and 4 will hold elections in the November 2022 General Election. Districts 1 and 5 will hold elections in the November 2024 General Election. Staff is working with the San Bernardino County Elections Office to process and implement the districts. Please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (760) 947-1026 for additional information.


BACKGROUND

May 2016: City contracts with National Demographics Corporation (NDC) to facilitate the transition from an at-large election system to a by-district election system in response to alleged California Voting Rights Act violation claims and threat of litigation received from two separate law firms in late 2015 and 2016.

March 7, 2017 and March 21, 2017: the City Council held two public hearings in which the public was invited to participate and provide input regarding the composition of districts.

April 18, 2017 and May 2, 2017: The City Council considers proposed district maps and sequence of elections submitted by the public.

May 16, 2017: The City Council adopts proposed district map Council1B and sequence of elections and introduces Ordinance No. 2017-09 to establish by-district elections in the City.

April 5, 2022: The City Council adopts new district boundary map based on 2020 U.S. Census data.
